    My Response:

After reading Mako’s presentation on deforestation, it really made me think about how much precious forest land we are losing because of modern development. It’s quite sad to think many undiscovered species of flora and fauna go extinct before we even know about them. Instead of clear-cutting and slash-and-burn farming methods, we should focus on sustainable development in order to preserve forests whilst expanding our population and agriculture. The pictures included in the presentation show desolate areas of cleared land, with little to no sign of life. My topic on water pollution connects to deforestation because humans are being careless with the world’s precious resource, which leads to the great decrease of bodies of water and forest areas. Bodies of water and forests are essential biomes to many species, and without it, the species are left without homes. One thing I felt Mako could have elaborated more on was sustainable development and what environmentalists are trying to do to save the forests. She included her long list of sources as well. In all, it was a great presentation in terms of informing us on the issue of deforestation.

  2. I really liked Mako's presentation due to the fact that it was so neat and to the point. It really showed me a piece of reality and how much deforestation is affecting our environment today. This small portion of pollution really takes a drastic toll in many different ways in the ecosystem. One question I have is what is going on today. What have environmentalists done already? Most of all I really liked the simplicity her presentation had yet it was so intriguing.

    My Response:
This presentation made it very easy to understand the overall information about deforestation. Every image included in the presentation were placed under the correct slides making it easier to see what is going with deforestation situation. The consequences clearly showed/told what would happen if deforestation continues. Like this presentation on deforestation my presentation on deforestation also included possible solutions, such as the replanting of trees and sustainable development. I feel the definition of sustainable development on the possible solutions slide would make the slide a little more understandable.

  4. Going over your presentation, something that really struck me was the image of the lone koala bear on a barren section of land that had clearly been clear-cut. I have always had a soft spot for animals, and that image really made me think about deforestation and the effects of it. I researched global warming, and deforestation related to that topic quite a bit. In my research, I learned a lot about how the clear-cutting and burning of forests effects Earth's atmosphere. The forests of Earth are what helps recycle carbon and protect the ozone layer. With the growing holes in the ozone layer, global warming is increasing. The continuous forestation of the world's forests are speeding up the destruction of the ozone layer, and thus global warming. I think that you could've emphasized a bit more on why deforestation occurs and what the wood is used for, as it is an interesting and a very deep topic with many layers to it.

  5. As I read through your presentation the picture of the destroyed lungs of the earth really stood out to me. People don't really seem to be very interested in the future of our world as they continue to cut down our sources of oxygen and destroy our future. Your presentation connects to mine in virtually all aspects as we explored the same topic. What do you mean by ypur possible solutions? They weren't explained very well and cause some questions to arise. This student has included a specific list of the sources from which she got her information.

  6. The first thing my eyes were drawn to was the picture of the trees shaped like lungs. From this picture I can tell that cutting down trees affects peoples' and animals' health. I also did my presentation on deforestation. Something I noticed that our presentations have in common is that we both talked about how cattle ranching is a cause of deforestation. Your presentation was very well put and the pictures really represent the topic. Something I believe you should have put into your presentation is how the causes of deforestation caused it to begin with. I also liked how I could tell that your information is reliable because of the variety of sources you used.
